A Harrisburg man has been charged by the city’s police with sexually abusing a child for years, beginning when she was eight years old.

According to court documents, the defendant was around 13 when the assaults began.

The now 14-year-old girl told Harrisburg police that Tarel Rainey, 21, had been abusing her at many Harrisburg houses over the year.

According to a police affidavit of probable cause, Rainey attempted to rape the girl and repeatedly assaulted her.

As stated in the affidavit:

Rainey inquired whether the girl was upset with him and warned her that if she told anyone about the abuse, he would harm her.

According to the complaint, Rainey later admitted to investigators that he might have touched the girl by accident. The affidavit states that he acknowledged his mistake and promised to phone the girl’s mother to apologize.

Rainey was charged on June 17 with one crime of corruption of minors, two charges of serious indecent assault, and rape of a child. The accusations are all felonies.

He is being jailed at Dauphin County Prison after failing to post $200,000 bond, according to online court records. July 2 is the day of Magisterial District Judge Matthew Pianka’s preliminary hearing.
