Legendary rocker undergoes emergency surgery after show: ‘Thought it was food poisoning’

Legendary rocker Steven Van Zandt thought he might have food poisoning, but it turns out it was something much more serious, and because of that he announced that he will miss several upcoming shows with Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.

Van Zandt commented on X, “I had a sharp pain in my stomach and thought it was food poisoning, but it turned out to be appendicitis.” I was fortunate to find a first-rate hospital in San Sebastian. Springsteen and the band are now on tour in San Sebastian, Spain.

Rolling Stone said the next scheduled date on the tour is June 27 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. The band is then slated to perform back-to-back shows at San Siro Stadium in Milan on June 30 and July 3, according to the outlet.

There has been no announcement as to who might replace Van Zandt for the shows that he will have to miss.

Van Zandt plays the guitar and mandolin in the E Street Band and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the group in 2014. He is also an actor who has had roles in The Sopranos and Lilyhammer.
