Three Daytona 500 victories were achieved by Morgan McClure Motorsports along the route. Sterling Martin won the 500 back-to-back in 1994 and 1995 after Ernie Irvan won the first one in 1991.
The team participated in an incredible 703 races.
“Learning of Larry McClure’s passing breaks my heart,” Martin posted on X.”I know you’ll drive the hell out of it,” he said, taking a chance on me. He gave me back-to-back Daytona 500s and a great race car. He was a brilliant, creative, and amazing man. I’m glad I saw him last year. I will miss him.
Hermie Sadler wrote on X, “I offer my sincere condolences to the family of Larry McClure.” I had only one car and one engine when I traveled to Chicagoland many years ago. During practice, my engine blew. I was given an engine to run by him. He said you could race that engine for free if you outqualified my car. Rest in peace.
