Ex-guitarist of acclaimed heavy metal band blasts former members as ‘horrible humans’

Brent Hinds, the former guitarist, singer, and co-founder of Mastodon, doesn’t seem to get along with his old bandmates.

To the surprise of many fans at the time, Hinds left the band in March. After 25 incredible years together, Hinds and the other band members had amicably chosen to split ways, the group declared in a statement.

The statement made it seem as though things were friendly even though Hinds was leaving, saying, “We’re deeply proud of and beyond grateful for the music and history we’ve shared and we wish him nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”

That wasn’t the case, apparently. Hinds attacked the band in the comments area of its official Instagram page on Wednesday, according to Loudwire.

One fan wrote, “Halloween is definitely my #1 track on this record,” in a post commemorating the group’s album Once More Round the Sun’s eleventh anniversary. But I will definitely miss B. Hinds.

Hinds commented, “I want [sic] miss being in a [expletive] band with horrible humans,” in reaction to that remark.

In a March Guitar World interview, guitarist and vocalist Bill Kelliher expressed kindness to Hinds, despite the fact that Hinds may be harboring resentment toward the other members of Mastodon. He said, “Like a marriage, sometimes people grow apart and they get interested in other things.” Brent has our warmest wishes as he pursues his goals.

Kelliher, drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor, and bassist/vocalist Troy Sanders make up the group’s current roster. On their current tour, guitarists Ben Eller and Nick Johnston have been standing in for Hinds, who has not yet been replaced permanently.
