Steelers land All-Pro Jalen Ramsey in blockbuster trade

In a surprise trade on Monday, the Pittsburgh Steelers acquired Dolphins standout cornerback Jalen Ramsey, continuing their hectic offseason.

Ramsey shared a video on Twitter with the message, “Break my own news!” to make the announcement. @steelers #HereWeGo.

From then, information about the trade began to surface. The Dolphins received Ramsey, tight end Jonnu Smith, and a 2027 seventh-round pick from Pittsburgh in exchange for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Although Schefter stated last week that Jalen Ramsey was more likely to wind up on the West Coast than in Pittsburgh, the Steelers were touted as a possible destination for weeks. But in the end, Pittsburgh closed the deal and acquired one of the best cornerbacks in sports.

Ramsey is a three-time first-team All-Pro and a seven-time Pro Bowler. The former Florida State standout also played with the Rams and won a Super Bowl.

According to Schefter, he will get a $1.5 million raise this season as part of the transaction. His 2025 compensation would be $26.6 million as a result.

Given that he just finished his finest season ever, the Steelers may also benefit greatly from the signing of Jonnu Smith. In 2024, Smith set career highs by catching 88 catches for 884 yards and eight touchdowns.

According to Schefter, Smith will receive a $12 million one-year contract extension as part of the trade.

The Steelers should benefit from Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith in 2025, but Fitzpatrick’s departure is a setback. Fitzpatrick, a former Dolphins first-round pick, is coming back to Miami after playing for the Steelers for six seasons.

Over his career, the former Alabama standout has been selected to five Pro Bowls and three first-team All-Pro teams.

The Steelers, who seem to be fully committed to the 2025 season, have had a busy offseason.

Although Smith and Ramsey are the most recent additions, Pittsburgh also inked Aaron Rodgers, a future Hall of Fame quarterback, to a one-year deal this offseason.

Rodgers stated that he anticipates this season to be his final one in the NFL.

This offseason, the Steelers also signed former Eagles CB Darius Slay to a contract and acquired outstanding receiver DK Metcalf.

With some veterans who are driven to help Pittsburgh make it to the playoffs, succeed there, and possibly win a Super Bowl, the squad will look very different in 2025.

On BetRivers, the Steelers have a +5000 chance of winning the Super Bowl the next season. You may locate a sportsbook to use with the help of our comprehensive list of Pennsylvania sportsbook deals.
