Pa. man charged with vehicular homicide in deadly scooter crash

According to authorities, a Pennsylvania motorist was charged following a collision in Newark, New Jersey, Thursday afternoon that claimed the life of an electric scooter operator.

The Essex County prosecutor’s office said that Paulo Gomes Jr., 36, of Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, was charged with second-degree vehicular homicide.

According to officials, the collision occurred near Ferry Street and Raymond Boulevard at Blanchard Street at approximately 1:11 p.m.

According to authorities, Marilyn Belkis Reyes Borjas, 35, of Newark, was waiting to ride her electric scooter across the crossing toward Blanchard Street.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Gomes struck the victim as she started to cross the street while operating a black 2019 Dodge Charger.

According to officials, Gomes’ 15-year-old son was hurt in the collision and Belkis Reyes Borjas passed away from her wounds.
