Using strength at the plate and on the mound, the West Perry Junior Mustangs #1 (there were two Junior Mustangs teams this season) defeated Newport 11-3 on June 15 to win the 2025 River League Major Division Championship.
At Shermans Dale’s Burn Hill Park, the young Stangs hammered out 11 hits, none greater than Chase Kopchik’s grand slam in the third inning that loomed above the 8-foot-tall left field fence.
JM captain Nathan Wilfong stated, “I knew it would come down to hits,” and we beat them 11 to 3. We gained a lot of momentum and advanced thanks to Kopchik’s grand slam, his first home run in River League play this season.
