‘General Hospital’ star reveals major health diagnosis

General Hospital

,” has been diagnosed with cancer.

The actor, 79, revealed his health battle with fans through publicist Anthony Turk on Thursday.

“While he remains hopeful and is working closely with his medical team on a treatment plan, this is a challenging time for Tristan and his family,” Turk’s statement said, per

Deadline

. “As they face both the emotional and physical burdens that come with this diagnosis, the family kindly asks for privacy and understanding.”

The actor’s longtime friend added how much Rogers and his family appreciate those around him.

“They are deeply grateful for the outpouring of support and love from their friends and family. Tristan sends his love to his fans and wants them to know how much he appreciates their loyalty and encouragement over the years,” the statement read. “This support means more to him now than ever. Future updates will be shared if deemed appropriate by Tristan and his family.”

So far, it hasn’t been revealed what kind of cancer the soap actor is battling.

Rogers has played Scorpio off and on since 1980. He won a Daytime Emmy for his work in the digital drama “Studio City.”

Rogers last appeared on the soap on Nov. 12, when his character left the city of Port Charles.
