Former Minnesota Vikings star Everson Griffen was removed from a plane on Wednesday after exhibiting “unruly” behavior,
according to TMZ
.
Griffen was on a Delta Airlines flight from Chicago to Minneapolis when the plane turned around and headed back to Chicago O’Hare International Airport after Griffen allegedly caused a disturbance, TMZ reports.
The website added that it spoke to someone on the flight who said it appeared as though Everson Griffen tried to smoke something while in the bathroom of the plane. Afterwards, he was reportedly confronted by flight attendants.
A Delta spokesperson told TMZ that the flight was grounded to have “an unruly passenger removed.”
Once the plane landed, Griffen reportedly walked off of it without incident.
Later, Griffen posted on his Instagram story, “I’m doing just fine. My behavior was not unruly at all. Why would they let me go.”
Everson Griffen spent 12 seasons in the NFL, with the majority of that time being with the Minnesota Vikings.
He made the Pro Bowl four times and was named second-team All-Pro in 2017.
The former defensive end finished his NFL career with 399 tackles and 85.5 sacks. He recorded double-digit sacks three times in his career, finishing with 12 in 2014, 10.5 in 2015 and 13 in 2017.
Griffen also briefly played for the Cowboys and Lions during his time in the NFL.
Prior to turning pro, Griffen was a star defensive end at USC. He was named the Pac-10 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2007.
