Shots fired at central Pa. home leads to multiple charges for 3 people

Police in Lancaster charged three people after shots were fired and a fight broke out at a home last weekend, according to an affidavit of probable cause.

Around 2:40 a.m. July 13, officers were sent to the first block of Prospect Street for a shots fired call and a physical fight.

A girl, injured as a result of the fight, was taken to the hospital, but her condition is unclear.

Three .380-caliber shell casings were found on the home’s front porch in addition to a bullet in the living room. There were also two strike marks on the living room floor. The home’s storm door glass was also shattered.

Officers spoke with Keenan Woods, 36, a resident of the home, and Venecia Lopez, 34, a woman involved in the incident.

Lopez told police Woods was shooting a gun inside the home.

However, police executed a search warrant around 8:45 a.m. and recovered two guns, a 9-millimeter pistol and a .22-caliber pistol, that did not match the .380 casings from the porch.

On July 14, investigators reviewed security footage from the area and saw six people approach the home around 2:38 a.m. July 13.

All six individuals went to the police station for interviews following the incident. The group included Lopez, 33-year-old Daniel Orlando, a 25-year-old, a 20-year-old, and two juveniles.

While standing on the porch, Lopez yelled, “Get my gun, it’s in the glove compartment,” the affidavit said.

The 20-year-old and one of the juveniles are then seen walking to a Toyota xD, registered to Lopez, where the juvenile grabbed the gun and handed it to the 20-year-old.

The 20-year-old then passed the gun to the 25-year-old, who walked toward the front porch and handed the gun to Lopez, police said.

About 20 seconds later, three gunshots were fired.

After the shots, Lopez gave something to Orlando, who walked to Lopez’s address along the first block of Caroline Street, just over half a mile away.

Once near Lopez’s home, cameras captured Orlando handing the item to a juvenile to put inside.

Police executed a search warrant at Lopez’s address on July 15, but did not recover a .380-caliber gun.

After taking Lopez and Orlando into custody, Lopez admitted to shooting her mother’s .380-caliber handgun inside Woods’ home to scare anyone inside. Lopez is not licensed to carry a firearm.

Orlando said Lopez fired shots in front of him before he took the gun to her address and gave it to a juvenile to put inside.

Police did not specify any connection between Lopez, Orlando and Woods.

Lopez and Orlando are both charged with four counts of aggravated assault, four counts of recklessly endangering another person, one count of burglary and carrying a firearm without a license.

Lopez is also charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, while Orlando faces charges of hindering apprehension, tampering/fabricating physical evidence and corruption of a minor.

Police charged Woods with receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence and two counts of person not to possess a firearm.

Lopez and Orlando are both incarcerated at the Lancaster County Prison with their bails denied. Woods posted his $75,000 bond on July 14.

All three have preliminary hearings scheduled for July 23.

Police said despite the charges against Lopez, Orlando and Woods, an investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
