According to recently released police reports, Bryan Kohberger may have been apprehended in the horrifying 2022 killings of four University of Idaho students mostly because of Xana Kernodle.
Investigators think that early on November 13, 2022, Kohberger entered the off-campus residence with the intention of killing Madison Mogen and Kaylee Goncalves on the third level. However, authorities claim that Kernodle’s resistance might have thwarted his scheme and resulted in the critical errors that revealed him.
According to the accounts, Kohberger most likely ran into Kernodle after she came back from accepting a delivery from DoorDash. She battled valiantly for her life as he chased her downstairs in the ensuing turmoil. According to Sgt. Shaine Gunderson, Kernodle sustained over fifty stab wounds, the majority of which were defensive. Blood cast-off was discovered on the walls above her body, and she was the sole victim not discovered in bed.
Officials speculate that Kohberger may have unintentionally left his KA-BAR knife sheath behind during that violent altercation, which would have provided crucial DNA evidence linking him to the incident. Additionally, Dylan Mortensen, the surviving roommate, heard enough disturbance to open her door and catch a fleeting glimpse of the masked murderer escaping the house.
Kohberger was at the crime scene when Mortensen subsequently provided investigators with a description. Her testimony was crucial in obtaining Kohberger’s final guilty plea, as was Kernodle’s seeming opposition and the evidence that was left behind.
According to additional sources, Kohlberger may have suffered knuckle and facial injuries during the altercation, which his companion subsequently reported to the police.
Only 20 years old at the time, Kernodle is today regarded not only as a victim but also as the person who might have prevented a vicious killer from going unpunished.
