NYC mass shooting suspect was former high school football star, claimed to have CTE

According to an ABC News story, Shane Tamura, the suspect in the mass shooting in New York City, was a standout football player in high school who claimed to have CTE.

On Monday, Tamura is accused of shooting and killing four individuals at a New York City building. The shooting, which took place at the structure housing NFL headquarters, also seriously injured an NFL employee.

Eric Adams, the mayor of New York City, told the Associated Press that the suspect seems to have been aiming for NFL headquarters but entered the incorrect elevator.

According to ABC News, Tamura had a note in his pocket stating that he had CTE and requesting that his brain be examined. The NFL is allegedly mentioned in the memo as well.

According to the Mayo Clinic, chronic traumatic encephalopathy, or CTE, is a brain disorder that is most likely brought on by repeated head trauma.

It seems to be connected to recurrent head injuries, which frequently happen in contact sports. It is believed that cognitive and emotional difficulties, physical symptoms, and other behaviors are signs of CTE. It is believed that symptoms appear years or even decades after a head injury.

Shane Tamura was a standout football player at Golden Valley High School and Granada Hills Charter High School in California.

According to MaxPreps, Tamura gained around 1,300 all-purpose yards and eight touchdowns as a senior at Granada Hills in 2015. According to MaxPreps, Tamura scored 14 touchdowns, had 103 receiving yards, and ran for 774 yards the previous season at Golden Valley.

After Tamura was identified as the probable shooter, former Granada Hills coach Walter Roby spoke with Los Angeles’ Fox 11 about him.

Shane kept to himself. He worked diligently and quietly. He may be coached. So he was doing whatever we asked him to do. You know, his actions on the field demonstrated his leadership. He claimed to be one of my best offensive players at the time.

What more could I have done? Can I assist the child? Could you have contacted me, or could I have contacted him? I’m just trying to comprehend a lot of stuff at the moment.

The shooting in Manhattan killed four people, including a police officer. The AP claims that the gunman, who was allegedly Tamura, committed suicide.

According to the AP, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that Tamura has a recorded history of mental health issues. The attack’s motivation is still a mystery.

The AP claims that CCTV footage shows the shooter carrying an M4 rifle as he exits a BMW shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tisch claims that he then enters the office building and begins fire.

According to the story, the gunman struck a woman in the lobby who was hiding before making his way to the elevator bank and murdered a police officer. After shooting a security desk guard and another man in the lobby, he allegedly made his way to the 33rd level.

According to Tisch, the attacker then shot and killed one person on that floor before shooting himself.

An NFL staff member was gravely hurt in the incident, according to a note written by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to every league employee.

Adam Schefter of ESPN shared a copy of Goodell’s note detailing the incident.

As has been extensively publicized, our building at 345 Park Avenue was the scene of an unimaginable act of violence by a shooter. As part of the statement, Roger Goodell stated that one of our employees had suffered serious injuries in the attack. His status is stable while he remains in the hospital. We are helping his family, and NFL personnel are at the hospital.
