New Hampshire Resident Calls Police After Finding 5-Foot Snake Slithering in Their Bathroom

Published On:

Earlier this week, a resident of New Hampshire was taken by surprise when they found a five-foot python wrapped around their bathtub and toilet.

The enormous snake had somehow made its way inside the resident’s toilet at an apartment on East Broadway, prompting police in Derry, New Hampshire, to respond to the strange call on Monday, July 28. A picture of the snake draped across the toilet and into the tub was posted on Facebook by the Derry Police Department.

Do you think someone is missing something? The department included a snake emoji as a joke in its caption. They later verified that the owner had been found.

Many of the responses that were posted online were humorous. My ex is that! Who released him? A woman made a joke. We must have dated the same guy, someone else added.Someone else joked, “It gives snake the toilet a whole new meaning.”

Others were more concerned: One user begged, “Please don’t tell me it came up through the toilet or shower drain.”

The snake was gentle and had been safely returned to its proper owner, a neighbor in the same building, Derry Police Captain Vern Thomas informed the public. It’s still unknown how the python got away.

Ball pythons, a common pet species, are not poisonous, but they can bite if provoked, albeit their bites are not fatal. To avoid infection, experts still advise getting medical help if you are bitten.

The appearance of a wayward reptile in a restroom is not new. Last November, a woman in South Carolina discovered a python behind her toilet. One man in Australia claimed to have discovered a snake in his toilet twice in a single week.

These occurrences are uncommon, but they serve as a reminder to always check before sitting.
