Chart-topping country artist kicks off new concert series in Harrisburg

The Dauphin County Live Concert Series is just getting started, but the Harrisburg University Concert Series may be coming to an end.

With performances at Harrisburg’s Riverfront Park and some of the same personnel hosting the events, the new series appears to be fairly similar to the previous one.

Russell Dickerson headlined a country music event on July 29th, marking the first of the county’s new events.

A line of food trucks and a small group of boats and passengers gathering on the nearby Susquehanna River were among the many familiar elements for previous Riverfront Park concertgoers.

However, there were some novelties, such a rule that let spectators to sit in the park’s back area with their own folding lawn chairs.

Dickerson, who has hit songs including “Blue Tacoma,” “Every Little Thing,” and “Yours” on the Country Billboard charts, walked onto the stage posing like Hulk Hogan and saying, “Let’s get ready to Russel.”

Honey kicked off his upbeat performance, and soon his enthusiastic stage presence had the audience applauding.

Additionally, the outdoor concert was crowded with a passionate audience eager to enjoy the performance despite the heat and humidity.

According to Angela and Matt McDonald, they only visit Harrisburg to attend performances at Riverfront Park.

They’re entertaining, I like them,” Matt remarked, adding that they frequently stop by a Harrisburg eatery like Cork & Fork first.

Kylie Early, who also traveled in from Palmyra, said, “I love the idea.” I saw that they do a small series every summer when I saw it on Facebook. For the first time, I was able to attend a concert. It’s in a good position and quite convenient, in my opinion.

Even though Early frequently travels to Harrisburg, she mentioned that she had several visitors who don’t frequently visit the city.

According to Harrisburg resident Jeff Roecker, he has attended a number of performances along the riverfront and encourages anyone who hasn’t been to check it out to do so.

“Down here by the river is a nice venue,” he remarked.

And the goal is to attract those tourists, said Justin Douglas, a commissioner for Dauphin County.

As he presented Austin Williams as the opening act, Douglas said, “We just want to thank you for being here.” I appreciate you everyone coming out to celebrate.

Douglas informed the audience that he and the other commissioners place a high importance on tourism in our area.

According to him, one of the things we can do is donate to events like this one, which enables us to bring in national performers to Dauphin County. We can continue because of your presence and presence here at this moment.

The concert series might go on for a while if the attendance at this performance was any guide.
