WashingtonAs the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens due to Israeli-imposed limitations, President Donald Trump stated Friday that his administration is actively developing a strategy to provide Palestinians in the enclave with much needed food and medical supplies.
Our goal is to assist others. Our goal is to keep them alive. Our goal is to feed people. In a quick phone interview with Axiosin, Trump stated that it was something that ought to have occurred a long time ago.
His comments coincide with mounting worldwide alarm about the dire situation in Gaza, where aid delivered by parachute has become a lifeline for many locals in regions like az-Zawaida in Deir al-Balah. Humanitarian organizations warn that the population is on the verge of disaster due to acute food, water, and medication shortages.
This week, U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee and White House envoy Steve Witkoff visited humanitarian distribution locations run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which is supported by both Israel and the United States. Although he claimed not to have been fully briefed on the visit, Trump commended Witkoff’s efforts and stated he was doing a fantastic job.
The president has acknowledged the seriousness of the problem before. Trump stated on Thursday that the situation there is awful. People are starving.
The visit comes amid criticism of howhumanitarianaid is being managed and distributed in Gaza. According to several Palestinian organizations, the existing aid paradigm puts civilians in grave danger and runs the risk of making displacement worse. Since May, around 1,300 Palestinians have reportedly been slain while trying to get assistance supplies, according to local reports.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at than 60,000 Palestinians have been murdered since Israel’s military campaign began on October 7, 2023, including many women and children. The causes of starvation alone have been linked to at least 154 deaths, including 89 children.
Much of Gaza’s infrastructure has been destroyed by widespread damage caused by continual Israeli airstrikes, making it more difficult to distribute supplies and ensure the survival of those stranded inside the besieged area.
