For the first time in its 38-year history, sportswear shop Bleacher Bums has increased the size of its ownership group.
Chris Trimble and Dan Rhone, two longtime staff members, joined founders Dave Sklar and Dan McGinnis as Bleacher Bums’ minority shareholders last month.
This transformation is based on devotion, passion, and a common vision for Bleacher Bums’ future, even though change can be bittersweet. According to the company’s message to its customers, Chris and Dan have both been part of the Bleacher Bums family for a long time. Their journey to this point has been driven by their love of sports, community, and the distinct spirit of the store that has meant so much to so many.
Trimble has almost twenty years of experience at Bleacher Bums.
Being trusted to carry on the work that Dan McGinnis and Dave Sklar began more than 30 years ago means the world to me, Trimble added.
While still in high school, Rhone started working part-time at Bleacher Bums.
I’m blown away that my childhood ambition of owning a sports business has come true. I can’t wait to continue the legacy that Dan and Dave have established over the last thirty plus years. “I’m thrilled to keep expanding this small family business for the future and for our communities,” Rhone stated.
Bleacher Bums sells team collectibles, sportswear, and memorabilia.
The business operates storefronts at the Valley Mall in Hagerstown, Maryland, and the Capital City Mall in Lower Allen Township. In 2023, Bleacher Bums closed their long-standing location at Lower Paxton Township’s Colonial Park Mall. In 2023, the retailer also shut down its Frederick, Maryland, location. The business shut down its Tanger Outlets Lancaster location in East Lampeter Township, Lancaster County, last year.
Last year, the business declared that it has extended its leases through 2029 at Hagerstown, Maryland, and the Capital City Mall.
Changes in ownership took effect on July 2. The agreement’s terms were not revealed.
The company stated that although this is a significant change, it is based on continuity and concern. The two mainstays of Bleacher Bums since its inception, Dan McGinnis and Dave Sklar, are not completely leaving the band. As the torch is formally transferred, they will remain business partners, mentoring and helping Chris and Dan.
