On Wednesday afternoon, emergency personnel rescued a person who had fallen into a ditch in a residential area of York County.

According to the York New Salem Fire Company’s Facebook page, at 4:17 p.m., units were dispatched to the New Salem Borough vicinity of Bahn Avenue and Southview Drive. The first units to arrive discovered an individual who had fallen to the bottom of an 8-foot trench and was unable to escape.

Additionally, it was verified that the individual had not been buried at the site in the 3900 block of Bahn Avenue and that the soil had not collapsed.

According to the Facebook post, special operations staff positioned struts and trench panels to prevent the soil from collapsing because there was no trench box.

After the ditch was secured, a rope system was used to package and remove the subject. Ninety minutes after the first ATR asset (Rescue Squad 9) arrived, the extraction was finished. According to the fire department, the victim had non-life-threatening injuries and was sent to a nearby trauma facility.

The York County Advanced Technical Rescue members as well as the local police and fire departments who helped with the rescue were commended by the fire company.
