A Harvard researcher claims that a group of youngsters attacked him inside a Boston cinema during what should have been a peaceful late-night movie night.
Brazilian researcher Thiago Rentz, 35, told NBC10 that the event happened on Sunday as he was seeing the horror movie Weapons at the AMC Boston Common 19.
According to Rentz, they were yelling and clapping the entire time, upsetting everyone. I requested their respect. We only wanted to see the movie, so I requested them to leave the theater.
Rentz claimed that when the movie concluded and the majority of the crowd had left, he attempted again but was ignored by the group.
He answered, “It was me against five.” To keep me from leaving, they built a wall. Then they began to strike me. I was afraid and didn’t defend myself. I tried to shield my head by facing the wall, but they continued to strike my face and head.
Rentz was hurt and bleeding when the assailants ran away. A theater employee whom his acquaintance was able to locate sent them to a security guard. Then, emergency personnel were summoned.
Around 12:45 a.m., according to Boston police, they came at the theater on Tremont Street. According to Rentz, who told NBC10 that the attack occurred at approximately 12:15 a.m., he suffered a small injury to his nose.
Rentz’s black eye is still healing days later. He complained that he hasn’t heard from AMC and that the assault occurred in front of witnesses.
He stated that harassment in public places is unacceptable. They should hire more security, in my opinion, because this is ridiculous.
In order to make sure security footage is examined, Rentz stated he plans to follow up this week. The teenagers, he said, were not masked but were clothed in black.
“The attackers must be punished, so I want them identified,” he stated.
AMC has been approached by The Independent for comment.
