Country music star calls Gold Star mom onstage to honor her son

Many people are crying over the video that Jamey Johnson posted to social media of a recent encounter he had with the mother of a deceased soldier who was a fan of his.

Johnson got to know Patricia Lynn Hair, a Gold Star mother, whose son, Brian John McLaren, served as an Army Sergeant. According to Whiskey Riff, McLaren passed away following a pool-diving accident in which he shattered his neck.

Hair displayed a picture of Johnson standing behind Kris Kristofferson at the 2016 Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco in the video that was posted to Johnson’s account. She clarified that after taking the picture, she discovered upon returning home that Johnson was the singer her son was constantly listening to.

She remarked, “I took this picture of this guy who came up on stage and sang a couple of songs with (Kristofferson).” I discovered this is the man my son (loves) when I arrived home. Before he joined the military, he used to play a CD and his guitar in his room, and I’m not sure who it was.

Hair claimed that after receiving cancer, she returned to Ohio, but she intended to tell Johnson about it when she saw him performing in Franklin, Ohio, in July. In the video, she introduced herself to Johnson and gave him the picture she had taken of him.

She mentioned that her son used to listen to your CD while exercising in his room. When he was in ROTC, I became so sick of hearing “In Color” that I threatened to smash the CD if it was played again.

She said to Johnson, “Now that song makes me think of him.” because his photos are all I have left of him.

Johnson asked her if she heard 21 Guns before signing the picture.

She remarked, “I’ve never seen you in concert.”

As Johnson led her onstage to sing 21 Guns, the footage suddenly showed the audience applauding.

Man, oh man! One fan answered. Weeping! God bless this mother and her son, who sacrificed everything for his nation. I appreciate you recognizing this family, Jamey Johnson.

Another person commented that it was amazing to see this in person. A terrific man gave such a cool moment.

“May God bless you, Sgt. McLaren,” someone else wrote. Hugs to his mother. You have a golden heart, Jamey!
