‘America’s Got Talent’ season 20 raises the stakes with a dramatic change to the quarterfinals format

Tonight marks the beginning of the America’s Got Talent season 20 quarterfinals.

On Tuesday, August 19, America’s Got Talent will premiere on NBC at 8 p.m. On Wednesday, August 20, at 8 p.m., the results will be broadcast.

After auditions, forty-four performers advanced to the semifinals. Every night during the quarterfinals, eleven performers will perform.

“One will be awarded a Live Golden Buzzer, sending them straight through to the Finals; the rest will vie for America s votes when voting opens at the top of the show, which starts at 8 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m.,” NBC reported.

On August 20, the rock group Def Leppard will play on the results show.

The semifinals and two-night final will follow four rounds of the quarterfinals. There will be twelve artists competing in the semifinals. The four performers that received golden buzzers will go to the finals, followed by the six with the most votes.

At the semifinals performance show on September 16, one act will win a Semifinals Golden Buzzer, guaranteeing them a place in the two-night finale on September 23–24.

$1 million will be awarded to the winner.
