At the beginning of the season, the Eagles might not have a ready-made backup quarterback on their roster.
Tanner McKee, the second-ranked quarterback for the Eagles, might not be well enough to play in Philadelphia’s Week 1 game against the Dallas Cowboys. This past week, McKee had an injury to his right finger that prevented him from participating in two straight practices. Although he didn’t require surgery, there is no estimated time of return.
Kyle McCord, a rookie selected in the sixth round, had a difficult game on Friday against the New York Jets. Jets safety Malachi Moore picked off the quarterback after he only completed 15 of his 35 passes (42% completion percentage).
Over Darius Cooper’s head, McCord threw the ball into double coverage, and it landed squarely in Moore’s hands.
McCord isn’t ready to play in an NFL game this season, but he might make a solid backup in the future.
The quarterbackDue to his poor summer, Dorian Thompson-Robinson is also unlikely to make the 53-man squad.
McKee kept his right hand in his pocket during the Eagles’ preseason matchup with the New York Jets. Following the game, Eagles coach Nick Sirianni remained unsure of McKee’s condition.
According to Sirianni, we’ll see. He’s coping with a finger, as you are all aware. He’s trying to return. We’ll check on him.
If McKee is out for an extended amount of time, the Eagles should be worried about the backup quarterback position. If McKee wasn’t available and Jalen Hurts got hurt, the offense wouldn’t work.
Howie Roseman, the general manager of the Eagles, might demote McCord to the practice squad and add another backup quarterback for Week 1. The Eagles have twelve days until the start, so they need to come up with a swift remedy.
Maybe throughout the course of the following week, McKee’s recuperation quickens and he is cleared.
However, the Eagles cannot start Week 1 with McCord as their backup if that doesn’t occur. It would be a grave error.
