Congressman Perry, Alzheimer’s families need your support now | PennLive letters

I had the chance to visit with Congressman Scott Perry on behalf of the Alzheimer’s Association in Washington on June 10th, which was the day after the anniversary of my mother’s death from Alzheimer’s disease. I talked about my mother’s experience and our appeal for more NIH funding for Alzheimer’s research, BOLD infrastructure Act funding, Medicare coverage for biomarker testing (ASAP), and online training for primary care physicians to identify and diagnose Alzheimer’s disease (AADAPT).

My mom was diagnosed more than a year ago, and at the time, there were no effective treatment alternatives. These days, two medications can reduce the disease’s progression, and a blood test can begin your diagnosis. We can’t stop now since time is our brain. We are getting closer to innovations with every dollar contributed.

With 12 million family caregivers and over seven million Americans suffering with Alzheimer’s, we ask Congressman Perry if we can rely on your help.

Swanson, Kelly, Harrisburg, Pa.
