Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback for the Pittsburgh SteelersHead coach Mike Tomlin stated on Saturday that Beanie Bishop is day-to-day due to a minor injury.
Bishop snuffed out his final chance to leave his mark on the squad by unexpectedly missing Thursday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.
Bishop was spotted practicing wind sprints off to the side during Saturday’s practice, which suggests he might return soon.
Defensive coordinator Teryl Austin stated earlier this week that Bishop’s final preseason game would be crucial as he pushed for a spot on the roster, despite the fact that he played 45 snaps overall over two games this preseason.
Now that you put No. 5 (Jalen Ramsey) and then No. 1 (Brandin Echols) in there, he’s actually up against some pretty excellent competition at the nickel, Austin said. He needs to put in a lot of effort and battle to get noticed in order to establish himself.
In his debut NFL season as an undrafted free agent, Bishop was the starting slot cornerback and recorded four interceptions. He contributed significantly to the team, and Austin stated that he must create the same impression if he want to join the group.
“He’s been working really hard,” Austin continued. The main thing that needs to happen to you when you’re not a starter, in my opinion, is that all of these preseason games are important because they give you a chance to separate yourself from other players. Every day we see you in practice. We are aware of your practice routine, but how do you set yourself apart during a game? On game day, do you actually show up? These preseason games will be crucial for Beanie because he has one more chance to impress us, and I have no doubt that he will give it his best.
Bishop had to earn his way up to West Virginia as a low-rated prospect from Louisville. Bishop’s determination to never forget his history was only bolstered by his status as an undrafted free agent.
Bishop stated, “I’m constantly hungry to keep proving myself because I’ve always been doubted.”
Bishop also had a somewhat altered appearance. He was his former self, but leaner and more explosive. In order to re-work his physique, he worked with the Steelers strength and conditioning department in Pittsburgh for the whole offseason. He now lets the Steelers coaching staff decide his future on the squad.
