As in the new film Girl in the Cellar, a mother locks her kid in the basement.

On Saturday, August 23, at 8 p.m., Girl in the Cellar will premiere on Lifetime.

According to Lifetime’s official synopsis, Rebecca (Kyla Pratt) becomes more and more worried that her daughter Lory (Kelcey Mawema) is not choosing the correct path in life.

When Rebecca finds out that Lory has a secret boyfriend, it’s the last straw. To avoid making any more mistakes, she chooses to lock Lory in their basement dungeon.

Lory is unaware that years before, Rebecca was imprisoned in this same dungeon by her violent father. The neighbors start to notice Lory’s absence as she fights for her life, and Rebecca’s actions raise suspicions, making her a major suspect in her daughter’s kidnapping.

Rebecca struggles with her actions and the contradictory emotions of remorse and justification over what she has done, haunted by her horrific history.
