The largest donation in the zoo’s history, totaling $10 million, was given to a zoo in Pennsylvania.
The Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium said in a statement that the donors have opted to remain anonymous despite revealing the donation on Wednesday.
According to Jeremy Goodman, president and CEO of the zoo, this donation not only enables us to construct a new giraffe barn with the room to begin a breeding program. Additionally, it enables us to start designing Expedition Indonesia, a new exhibit that will showcase a variety of species, such as Malaysian tapirs, siamangs, and orangutans.
Priorities in the zoo’s master plan include the giraffe barn, Expedition Indonesia, and a newly constructed admissions and ticketing plaza.

According to Goodman, this amazing donation truly acts as a spark for additional gifts and expansion at the zoo. It is an investment in the welfare of animals in the future as well as the renewed role Pittsburgh is playing as a pioneer in conservation efforts.
Daily winter viewing possibilities and new VIP experiences, like walking on an elevated catwalk and hand-feeding the giraffes, will be made possible by a new giraffe barn.
With waterfalls, pools, and a brand-new animal facility, Expedition Indonesia will provide a vibrant and realistic setting.
Later this year, work on the giraffe barn will start.
