Are the Eagles a potential landing spot for this NFL All-Pro?

Published On:

This month, the Eagles have already made two moves. But will Howie Roseman’s acquisition of one of the league’s top players create an even greater impression?

The Cincinnati Bengals may trade four-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Trey Hendrickson after the two teams are unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension.

Hendrickson, who has led the NFL in sacks (17 1/2) in each of the last two seasons, is allegedly open to hearing proposals from the Bengals. After originally waiting, the 2024 first-team All-Pro selection arrived for training camp but hasn’t taken part in any drills.

If Hendrickson is dealt, Cincinnati is hoping for a haul. According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, teams who have expressed interest in the 30-year-old have been informed that the Bengals’ asking price includes a 2026 first-round pick and a young defensive player.

It’s highly improbable that a club will part with selections, a player, and the deal that Hendrickson desires, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Hendrickson is not aiming to surpass Micah Parsons as the league’s highest-paid non-quarterback. However, it is said that he wants to at least double his projected $15.8 million for this season.

Few NFL teams can afford to pay Hendrickson and satisfy the Bengals’ demands. However, one of them is the Eagles, who have been mentioned as a trade candidate for Hendrickson.

The Eagles’ cap room is little over $30 million. To send Cincinnati a message, they have young defensive players like edge rushers Jalyx Hunt and Nolan Smith. With 13 picks in the 2026 NFL draft, they also have a lot of draft capital.

Jordan Schultz of FOX Sports shared a note he received from an AFC general manager following the Eagles’ Sunday trade for Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie III: Don’t assume that the Eagles are finished making moves. They will always be aggressive, and they have a lot of picks.

Is it logical for the Eagles to pursue Hendrickson? The Eagles are starting the next season counting on Smith, a 2023 first-round pick, and Hunt, a 2024 third-round pick, to step up because Josh Sweat is going in free agency and Brandon Graham is retiring. Azeez Ojulari and Josh Uche are two more seasoned rotational players for Philadelphia.

Smith or Hunt might be sacrificed in order to add Hendrickson. But Roseman’s decision to further bolster a roster that returns a lot from last year’s Super Bowl would be a huge one.

There are other teams that could be interested in Hendrickson besides the Eagles. The Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, Los Angeles Chargers, Indianapolis Colts, and Houston Texans were also mentioned by USA Today as possible candidates.

But Eagles supporters should keep an eye on Hendrickson’s circumstances in Cincinnati.
