Blazing-fast Pittsburgh Steelers playmaker named starting punt returner

LATROBE, PA. –On their special teams unit, the Pittsburgh Steelers have already sorted out one position. Head coach Mike Tomlin stressed on Tuesday that wide receiver Calvin Austin III will be the team’s leading punt returner.

Austin improved significantly from his debut season as the team’s punt returner in 2024. He had more yards per punt return and scored his first touchdown on a return in his career.

There, I like him. He aspires to be the greatest person on the planet. He has significantly improved. During the previous season, he was heading in that route. Tomlin stated that he is eager to take another step in that direction.

The Steelers got too much use out of Austin last season to remove him from that unit, but he is expected to be one of the team’s best wide receivers, raising the question of whether he would still return punts.

Nevertheless, Austin, who just finished his best season as a receiver, will continue to be the team’s slot wide receiver. As he approaches the final year of his rookie contract, the Steelers are hoping it will translate into an even stronger season.
