LATROBE, PA. –Although Broderick Jones is having a tremendous year, I can’t say that his training camp start has been particularly impressive. He gave in to two would-be sacks on the first day, including one in which Highsmith threw him inside.
Jones labored once more on Friday, giving up two more sacks and losing to Nick Herbig’s spin move. Jones is aware of his high standards and is not unfamiliar with them. The first two days have been a little worrisome, but the pads aren’t on yet either.
Tomlin is also aware of it.
Tomlin stated, “I expect him to do what we drafted him to do.” When he came out, he was a highly regarded left tackle prospect. He had some on-the-job training in the meantime because he was a young man when he came out. I believe that this year will be significant for him, and we can anticipate that he will play varsity ball.
Jones minimized the importance of switching positions in the early stages of his career and claimed that there isn’t much of a difference between right and left tackles nowadays. Therefore, he has to work on his technique.
Jones stated, “No, I don’t think it’s different.” I’ve started in the lineup. To me, it remains the same position. Trying to become a starter is my goal. I just need to concentrate on the fact that they are observing me as a left tackle.
The offensive line’s trajectory might be drastically altered if the Steelers can get a significant boost out of Jones in his third season.
