After going overboard, a crew member on Royal Caribbean’s Icon of the Seas cruise passed away.
The unnamed individual went overboard at around 7 a.m. on Thursday as the ship, which was described as the largest cruise ship in the world, was only a few hundred miles from the Bahamas shore.
The emergency alert was activated after the crew member fell off the ship’s port side, according to Cruise Hive. The ship turned around and life preservers were put in to indicate the spot.
Despite being found and rescued by a rescue dinghy, the crew member did not make it out alive.
In a statement given to WSVN, Royal Caribbean stated, “Unfortunately, the crew member passed away, but our crew immediately initiated a search and rescue operation.”We offer our sympathies to the loved ones and family of the crew member. We don’t have any further information to share in order to protect their privacy.
The Bahamas will be the next destination on the Icon of the Seas’ itinerary. On Saturday, it is anticipated to return to Miami, Florida.
