UPDATE: A truck carrying 1,000 pounds of hot dogs crashes on I-83, hospitalizing four persons.

A tractor-trailer transporting frozen hot dogs collided with a car Friday morning in York County, causing Interstate 83 to be closed in both directions and injuring one person, according to dispatch.

According to York County dispatch, 1,000 pounds of frozen hot dogs from the trailer spilled across the roadway in Shrewsbury Township at mile marker 6.6, close to the Glen Rock Exit, at 9:13 a.m.

One individual was brought to the hospital, according to dispatch. It’s unknown if the individual was inside the car or the tractor-trailer.

Dispatchers reported that all north and southbound lanes were blocked between Exit 4 and Exit 8.

Todd Wagner, who works in the area, reported hearing a tire burst on Friday before hearing smashing sounds. He walked outside with a few coworkers to check on anyone who might need assistance.

They made their way to an embankment with a view of the roadway. He said that other drivers had already dialed 911. He saw smashed packaging and thousands of frozen hot dogs spilling across the highway.

Crews are removing the hot dogs from the road before it reopens to traffic, according to dispatch. Pennsylvania State Police and the Shrewsbury Volunteer Fire Company are on the scene.

As soon as the crash area is cleared, PennLive will update this story.
