Jussie Smollettrung was a year older, but he was engaged this time.
The 43-year-old former Empire star revealed his engagement to actor Jabari Redd on Instagram. Smollett posted multiple pictures of himself kneeling and holding a ring in front of Redd.
Redd appeared to be unable to control his excitement, as seen in the pictures.
My fiancé and I will be spending my birthday together. He replied, “YES,” in the caption. Smollett’s birthday was on Saturday, June 21.
Family members and friends showered the happy couple with well wishes after seeing their post.
This includes Smollett’s sister, Jurnee Smollett, who wrote and cried with delight to celebrate her younger brother’s engagement! and I want to add that I adore you both with all of my heart. Redd was likewise welcomed into the family by her.
Jazz Smollett, the actor’s sister, commented, “Yaaaass!” in celebration of the joyous occasion. Jabari, welcome to the family! I love you all! I’m very delighted for you two.
Regarding Redd’s career, he starred in the 2024 film The Lost Holliday, which was directed and acted by Smollett, and made appearances on shows including Showtime’s The Chi.
The happy news comes over six years after the actor was charged with lying to Chicago police and committing a racist and homophobic attack on himself in 2019. Smollett has consistently insisted on his innocence.
After completing community service, the charges were initially withdrawn; but, to his dismay, he was later charged a second time.
The Illinois Supreme Court overturned Smollett’s conviction on those counts in November of last year.
