George Pickens camp update: TruEdge Sports apologizes for ‘inappropriate’ statement

Published On:

After criticizing former Steelers wide receiver George Pickens for canceling his child sports camp earlier this week, TruEdge Sports issued an apology.

The corporation was extremely dissatisfied by George Pickens’ lack of professionalism and his choice to renounce the pledge he personally confirmed following his trade, according to the original message sent to campers’ parents.

It also stated that Pat Freiermuth, a former Penn State star, will be joining George Pickens as a guest.

Prior to abruptly withdrawing, TruEdge Sports claimed to have spoken with Pickens directly following his trade to the Cowboys this offseason and that he personally confirmed he would still hold the camp.

In a fresh statement released on Friday, TruEdge retracted those remarks.

Building trusting relationships with the athletes, families, and communities we serve is something we at TruEdge Sports are proud to do. Regarding our planned youth camp with George Pickens, a statement was recently released that did not fully capture the extent of communication or the circumstances of the occasion.

George never spoke to us personally, and our conversations with his delegates left us unsure about the camp’s current state and future course.

Unfortunately, our initial message’s wording misrepresented George’s intentions and behavior. Although the mystery around the event was the source of our dissatisfaction, we never intended to openly cast doubt on George’s professionalism, moral character, or dedication to the community. We now realize that our message’s connotations and tone were not only improper, but also at odds with our organization’s ideals.

We acknowledge that his team maintained open lines of communication with us while he navigated a major professional shift.

Evidently, TruEdge believes that its initial statement was excessive and that certain aspects of it were unjust and untrue.

This Saturday was the initial date of the George Pickens Youth Football Camp. However, TruEdge stated in its earlier release that it would now take place at Pittsburgh’s Highmark Stadium on Saturday, July 20.

The company is in ongoing negotiations with several other Steelers players in addition to Freiermuth, and it has every intention of developing an entertaining roster that offers value to all families.

TruEdge stated that it is making amends by giving away autographs from every Steelers player that attends the camp, giving a 25% credit toward future TruEdge camps, and more.
