Hard-nosed Steelers wide receiver goes down with toe injury

Published On:

Pittsburgh –On Monday, offensive coordinator Arthur Smith announced that wide receiver Ben Skowronekis of the Pittsburgh Steelers is battling a toe ailment. Unexpectedly, Skowronek did not play in the team’s Saturday matchup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The extent of Skowronek’s injury is uncertain, but the wide receiver did not wear a walking boot throughout Monday’s game or in the locker room. These are encouraging indications that Skowronek will recover more quickly.

Players like Brandon Johnson will get more snaps and reps on special teams to show off their skills without him in the lineup.

Last season, Skowronek was a vital member of the Steelerson offense’s special team and a versatile player. After being cut by the Houston Texans, he was added to the practice squad.

Despite missing time due to hip and shoulder problems, Skowronek developed into a crucial member of their special teams units as a gunner. In the offense, he alternated between playing as a wing, wide receiver, fullback, and occasionally an H-back. This made it possible for Skowronek’s role to develop.

He played alongside former Steelers wide receiver Miles Boykin at Notre Dame before being picked by the Rams. Skowronek has slightly over 500 receiving yards in his NFL career and won the Super Bowl with the Rams in 2021.
