In a recent interview, Harrison Ford discusses his thoughts on the status of American politics today.
Following the first six months of President Donald Trump’s second term, the 83-year-old Indiana Jonesstar offered his thoughts on the country’s political trajectory in an article published by Variety on Wednesday, July 30. According to Ford, the pendulum swings in both directions and is currently swinging steadily to the right.
But it will swing back as nature will, he added. The Shrinkingactor pointed out that the intentional division of society—we are no longer who we once were because we have been purposely divided into manageable political units—is the fundamental problem, not American identity per such.
Ford, a veteran political observer, made a statement about the influence of strong speech on national unity. He told Variety that although the middle is where we belong because compromise is just and honest, it has gotten shredded.
Ford is optimistic that Americans will find their commonalities in spite of the polarization. “That’s where it always was: Rich get richer, and poor get poorer,” he stated, pointing to the economic difference. And that’s not precisely correct.
Just days before the election on November 5, which she lost, Ford publicly backed former Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump’s opponent.

Ford stated, “Look, I’ve been voting for 64 years,” in his endorsement video for Harris. The video, which was shot in black and white, features the actor urging Americans to support Harris despite his unwillingness to discuss politics in public.
As Ford stated in the film, “you have to pay attention when dozens of former Trump administration officials are raising alarms saying, for God’s sake, don’t do this again.” They have vital things to tell us.
