This week, a horse from Maryland encountered a terrible and uncommon circumstance.
When a horse stepped on a wooden plank that abruptly snapped, it fell into an eight- to 10-foot pit, prompting firefighters in Baltimore County, Maryland, to come to the scene on Thursday, August 14.
To save the horse, some 30 first responders from the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services Special Ops team and the Baltimore County Fire Department collaborated.

rescue of confined space animals. The fire department posted on its official Xaccount and Twitter that the horse had been anesthetized and pulled out of the pit. On-site veterinarian assessing the horse.
Around 9:36 a.m., a local towing company used a crane to remove the horse out of the pit after it had been safely anesthetized. Officials posted pictures of the meticulous procedure, in which workers surrounded the pit and led the horse out so it could stand on all fours.
About two hours were needed for the rescue. Since the horse appeared to be unharmed, it was given to a veterinarian to recuperate from the sedative.
The reason for the hole’s existence was not explained.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time an animal has encountered such a circumstance. A zebra encountered a similar situation earlier this year.
A zebra named Ed was seen sprinting through Tennessee homes and on the highway in June, following a week-long disappearance. The animal was trapped and airlifted from a pasture in the Buchanan Estates area, according to video footage.
At the time, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office posted a Facebook message stating that Ed had been safely returned to his owners.
According to the statement, deputies were on standby to ensure the safety of the local population. Ed was helicoptered back to a waiting animal trailer after being airlifted.
