Jenna Bush Hager can relate to Ashley Hicks’ experience of growing up in a strict household.
Ashley Hicks gained popularity on TikTok recently by sharing her childhood memories of being the daughter of a Secret Service member. She discussed her dad’s safety advice, which includes never sitting with your back to the door in a restaurant, and how her dad’s rigorous training prevented her from doing typical child activities.
Ashley told a story about returning home one evening as a teenager in one of the videos. She had been drinking when she got home before curfew. “Do you really think that gum is going to hide what you’ve been doing?” her father asked her from the other side of the room.
In an interview on her TikTok stardom, Ashley said, “It just felt like that was normal growing up.”
In her humorous response to Ashley’s stories on Monday’s Today show, Jenna Bush Hager said, “Ashley, I couldn’t get away with much either because I was always followed by men carrying fanny packs hiding things.”
George W. Bush, the former president, is the father of Jenna Bush Hager. She had a difficult time growing up in the spotlight during her father’s eight years as president, and she turned 19 just after the 2000 election. Among other things, Jenna and her twin sister Barbara were frequently criticized for their college partying.
“I remember reading articles years ago about you getting away with quite a bit,” said Craig Melvin, host of today’s show, in a playful jab at Jenna.

Jenna was charged with a misdemeanor for consuming alcohol while underage in April 2001 while she was a student at the University of Texas. She was charged once more for attempting to use a phony ID a month later. To both accusations, she entered a no contest plea.

Ashley is frequently asked if her father, who spent 25 years working as a Secret Service agent under multiple presidents, had a favorite president.
Ashley claimed that although all presidents show good treatment to Secret Service personnel, he would probably name George W. Bush because he was his special agent for the longest period of time.
