Legendary rock band announces it has decided not to retire after all

The announcement that Foreigner was embarking on its Historic Farewell Tour was made back in the summer of 2023.

In the summer of 2025, the band has made the decision to stop saying goodbye.

Yes, Foreigner fans, you can celebrate because there will be more music in the future.

Bassist Jeff Pilson told Billboard, “There’s just a lot of forward movement, and the band is really excited.” Originally intended to be a goodbye tour, it turned out to be Kelly Hansen’s final tour and the band’s next move.

In 2005, Hansen took Lou Gramm’s place as the band’s original lead singer. However, the announcement of the farewell tour revolved around him.

In a statement posted on the band’s website at the time, Hansen stated, “The time has come.” For nearly 18 years, we have essentially lived our lives on the road. We plan to end this the same manner we have always tried to give you our best.

He went on to say, “I refuse to give them less than they deserve because Foreigner has a brilliant and increasingly demanding catalogue of songs to sing.” We will therefore finish strongly. I would want to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation to the audiences that have supported this band worldwide. I believe the moment is approaching for us to live off the road, though I’m sure there will be times when we make special appearances. Many thanks to all of you!

When the band revealed in May that longstanding guitarist Luis Maldonado would take Hansen’s position as lead singer, everything changed. Pilson told Billboard that Maldonado had the backing of all band members and that the group presented a unified face once he took over as lead singer.

We are able to incorporate everyone into the present, including Lou and everything related to Foreigners, he stated. It has been really beneficial to make this adjustment with Luis, obtain the support of Lou and Mick (Jones), and have the entire business collaborate more.
