Before Michelle Sloan attended the Massachusetts Lottery office and received the shock of her life—that her scratch-off lottery ticket was worth $1 million—she believed she had won a meager $10,000.
In a statement released by the Massachusetts State Lottery, Sloan stated, “I was certain it was only ten grand.” It’s really unbelievable. I’m still astonished.
The winning $2,000,000 Diamond Cashwordticket was bought by Sloan on July 16 at the Village Knoll Deli & Spirits in Millbury. When she took it to the regional office in Worcester, officials informed her that she had scored the much larger jackpot and would instead need to go to headquarters in Boston.
Sloan chose to make a one-time cash payment of $650,000 before taxes rather than spread out the entire award over time.
The mother from Massachusetts stated that she intends to invest a portion of her winnings and spend another amount to provide for her kids.
Village Knoll Deli & Spirits, the convenience store that sold the lucky ticket, will get a $10,000 lottery bonus.
The odds of winning any prize in the $10 scratch game TheDiamond Cashword are 1 in 3.26. There is a 1 in 2.52 million chance of winning $1 million, and a 1 in 5.04 million chance of winning the $2 million top prize.
