Police say a guy from Staten Island and his mother are facing significant charges after he allegedly caused a fatal crash during a risky BMW street racing in Plainsboro, New Jersey.

Alvi Limani, 20, is accused with vehicular murder, aggravated manslaughter, reckless auto assault, endangering others, obstructing traffic, falsifying records, fleeing a fatal collision, and operating a vehicle with a suspended license that resulted in death or serious harm.

Vilma Vneshta, his 42-year-old mother, is accused of third-degree hindering. The Middlesex County Adult Correctional Center is holding both without bail.

The incident occurred on the Garden State Parkway south just after 7 p.m. on June 29, according to the New Jersey State Police (NJSP). Two 20-year-old Staten Island residents, Albert Hysenaj and another, were discovered by troopers after being flung from their vehicle.

After being taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital with the other passenger, Hysenaj passed away from his wounds. The second man is still in critical condition.

Two BMWs were racing on the parkway at the time of the collision, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

Arrest warrants claim that Limani was driving one of the BMWs carelessly, swerving through traffic and reaching 112 mph in a 55 mph zone. According to the police, his car repeatedly overturned and collided with two other cars. Hysenaj and the other passenger were ejected from the vehicle due to the collision.

Limani and his girlfriend, Emily Harrington, 19, of Staten Island, reportedly departed the crash scene after that, according to the police. Harrington is currently facing charges of conspiracy to endanger another person, obstruction, and impeding.

Jeter Ogando, 23, of Perth Amboy, the other driver in the BMW street race, is accused of second-degree vehicular homicide, endangering another person, and assault by auto.

Investigators claim that Limani tried to exit the country by fleeing to Miami with his mother a few days after the tragedy.

The two were taken into custody by the police near Miami on July 17. According to detectives, they bought phony aircraft tickets to Tirana, Albania, Florida IDs, and same-day passports. On the airport tarmac, they were seen in handcuffs on camera.

Vneshta and Limani are both recognized as non-citizens in jail documents. In an affidavit, investigators also stated that Vneshta is Albanian and is still thought to have Albanian connections.

The two are still being held at the Department of Corrections in Middlesex County.
