–New Pittsburgh Steelers tight end, LATROBE, Pa.On the first day of training camp, Jonnu Smith led the squad in workouts while wearing his uniform, even going into individual drills. However, he never experienced any team sessions and ended up wearing street clothing.

Following practice, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin stated that Smith is on and off, but he did not identify the illness he is presently dealing with.

Additionally, Tomlin stated that running back Corderelle Patterson may be added to the day-to-day category due to an unidentified ailment.

Smith joined his former longtime offensive coordinator and head coach, Arthur Smith, with the Steelers after receiving a new one-year, $12 million contract as part of the trade.

With 88 receptions for 884 yards and eight touchdowns in the Dolphins offense last season, he set career highs. Franchise records were all those marks.

Smith thinks he and Pat Freiermuth have the potential to be the NFL’s best tight end tandem, but they must first demonstrate their abilities on an NFL field.

“We must demonstrate it,” Smith stated. If you’d like, you can say all of that. We are on paper. However, we must go out and demonstrate it.

With Arthur Smith as the offensive coordinator, Jonnu Smith steadily rose in importance within the offense during his tenure. He recorded back-to-back seasons with 400 yards.
