NFL employee ‘seriously injured’ in fatal shooting at NYC skyscraper

In a message to all league workers, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that an NFL employee had been gravely hurt in Monday’s shooting at a New York City tower.

Adam Schefter of ESPN shared a copy of Goodell’s note detailing the incident.

The NFL and the major investment business Blackstone are located in the Manhattan office skyscraper that was attacked.

As has been extensively publicized, our building at 345 Park Avenue was the scene of an unimaginable act of violence by a shooter. As part of the statement, Roger Goodell stated that one of our employees had suffered serious injuries in the attack. His status is stable while he remains in the hospital. We are helping his family, and NFL personnel are at the hospital.

The shooting claimed the lives of four individuals, including a police officer, according to the Associated Press. The AP reports that the shooter committed suicide.

The shooter was identified as Las Vegas resident Shane Tamura. According to the AP, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch stated that he had a recorded history of mental health issues. The attack’s motivation is still a mystery.

It doesn’t seem like any other NFL personnel were hurt during the shooting, Goodell wrote in his email.

“The building has almost been cleared, and we believe all of our employees are otherwise safe and accounted for,” he added. Officer Islam, who sacrificed his life to defend others, and the law enforcement personnel who acted swiftly and aggressively in response to this threat have our sincere gratitude.

The AP claims that CCTV footage shows the man carrying an M4 weapon as he gets out of a BMW shortly before 6:30 p.m. Tisch claims that he then enters the office building and begins fire.

According to the story, the gunman struck a woman in the lobby who was hiding before making his way to the elevator bank and murdered a police officer. After shooting a security desk guard and another man in the lobby, he allegedly made his way to the 33rd level.

According to Tisch, the attacker then shot and killed one person on that floor before shooting himself.

In his speech, Goodell also said that the NFL will try to assist its workers in overcoming the tragedy.

All employees have access to a wealth of resources, including grief counselors, as you are aware, he stated. More details on the resources that are available and how to utilize them will be sent to you shortly by HR.

Tomorrow, people in New York should work from home. If you would rather take the day off, that makes sense.

In the coming days and weeks, 345 Park Avenue will be subject to heightened security.

You are all important members of the NFL family. Together, we shall overcome this.
