Pa. residents to get up to $500 this summer: ‘This is real money’

Several Pennsylvanians will receive payments at some time this summer.

And to restate the earlier statement, no, these checks are not fraudulent.

These checks, which can total up to $500, are a part of the Pennsylvania Money Match program, according to a news release that the state Treasury Department released via email last Tuesday.

For those who do not know, the Treasury Department is able to automatically return unclaimed property to its legitimate owners through the Money Match program. Last year, Governor Josh Shapiro signed this motion after it was unanimously adopted by the General Assembly.

“Seeing so many people receive money they didn’t know they had is exciting,” Garrity remarked. Cashing these checks has become crucial.

We want everyone to understand that this is a legitimate operation and that the money is real. Families in Pennsylvania can use every dollar we provide them to pay their rent or mortgage, buy food, or fill up their automobiles with petrol. They own this money, not the government.

The second wave of more than 39,000 Money Match checks, totaling an incredible $9.2 million, were distributed last week, according to a statement from State Treasurer Stacy Garrity. In August, an estimated 40,000 letters will be sent in the following batch.

State Representative Ryan Bizzarro (D-Erie) stated that Pennsylvania is honoring its employees and taxpayers by automatically restoring over $10 million in unclaimed property to its rightful owners through the first two rounds of the Money Match program. We should be happy whenever we can reduce red tape and give taxpayers their money back.

As a major supporter of the Money Match program, I’m collaborating with my colleagues in the House and Senate to grow this program and give our commonwealth’s citizens even more money back. Giving back the more than $5 billion in unclaimed property that is currently in the PA Treasury is a sensible move.
