Pittsburgh Steelers cut hard-nosed former Colts running back

Running back Evan Hull has been released by the Pittsburgh Steelers, the organization announced Friday. After strong preseasons, Hull is the first running back cut by the team, leaving Trey Sermon and Lew Nichols on the roster.

In the 2023 NFL Draft, Hull was selected in the fifth round by the Colts from Northwestern. The 5-foot-10, 210-pound running back has only made one rush attempt for a yard in his career, but he showed above-average athleticism.

Hull recorded a 37-inch vertical leap and a 40-yard sprint time of 4.47. when the season, he signed a future contract with the Steelers when the Colts declined to re-sign him.

Hull gained 891 receiving yards and nearly 2000 running yards at Northwestern. He had an opportunity to contend for a bottom-of-the-roster position, but Nichols and Sermon both made an impression in their little action.

Hull is free to sign with any other team that is interested after going through waivers. He may potentially return to join the practice squad. Three running backs are anticipated to remain on the Steelers’ final roster.
