Pittsburgh Steelers end practice early after storms roll through training camp

LATROBE, PA. –Due to storms that may have included lightning, the Pittsburgh Steelers canceled their second practice from Saint Vincent College.

The Doppler just did not alter enough for the Steelers to feel comfortable with it, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, who stated that he wanted the team to return to the field.

If at all possible, I really wanted to try to get the team back on the field. However, Doppler hadn’t done enough, and the reason for that is that in football, we frequently have hardship and abrupt shifts, especially when it comes to the weather,” Tomlin stated. For instance, when we played the Cowboys last year, there was a significant delay. Days like today are not what we run from. We simply try to handle it as best we can and complete as much work as we can while maintaining the group’s safety. However, based on the Doppler data, we didn’t think it was safe enough to return today.”

There were still three periods on the Steelers’ schedule, which would have given the players on the field an additional thirty minutes of practice and repetitions.

The Steelers will not train under lightning, though they have frequently done so in the rain. Instead, if it goes as far as it did today, they will either move indoors or cancel.
