Pittsburgh Steelers sign hard-hitting former Ravens safety

Former New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens safety Chuck Clark is joining the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team announced Friday.

Clark is recovering from two consecutive seasons of severe injuries. He returned for the 2024 season, but it was cut short by a damaged pectoral muscle. He missed all of 2023 due to an ACL tear.

With 69 tackles, one tackle for loss, and two pass deflections, Clark started 12 games for the Jets. From 2019 to 2022, he was a starter with the Ravens, which was his most productive season.

In keeping with Pittsburgh’s recent tendency, Clark, a colleague of Malik Harrison, Patrick Queen, and DeShon Elliott, already has connection with some of the Steelers’ players from his time with the Ravens.

Clark, a native of Philadelphia, was selected by the Ravens in the sixth round from Virginia Tech. Despite being stereotyped as a strong safety throughout his career, his arrival should provide him with an opportunity to demonstrate that he can play both free and strong safety. Clark has worked at both locations.

After the Minkah Fitzpatrick deal, he will now be in the same room as Elliott and Juan Thornhil, and if he shows that he still has some left in him, he may see playing time.
