Following cornerback Cam McCutcheon’s hamstring injury during the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Pittsburgh Steelers signed cornerback Mickey Victor.
During his first season, Victor, a graduate of Alabama State, joined the New England Patriots for training camp. Victor ended the preseason with four tackles, but he was cut and didn’t play on their practice squad. In his last season at Alabama State, he was a finalist for the Aeneas Williams Award, which honors the top defensive back from an HBCU.
Victor was not signed by the Steelers, who invited him for a tryout in January. At six feet two and 205 pounds, his length is his most notable feature. Along with his height, he has an 80-inch wingspan, which makes him a perfect deep press man coverage cornerback.
With some of the regular Steelers cornerbacks battling injuries and McCutcheon’s injury, Victor will now attempt to make a last-ditch effort to make the team’s practice squad.
