When a dog and a horse first meet, you could anticipate cautious looks, an inquisitive sniff, or perhaps an eager wagging tail. However, the encounter took a humorously unexpected turn when Simon, a 3-year-old horse, met Petal, a 4-year-old rescue dog.
Simon reached down and gave Petal’s head a playful nibble instead of a kind hello. Fortunately, it was all harmless fun, as evidenced by the TikTok video that was uploaded to @boochaces. The video has received over 191,700 likes and over 1.1 million views since it was shared on August 15.
Caitlin Cimini, the creator of the animal refuge Rancho Relaxo in New Jersey, who was keeping Petal at the time of the widely shared incident, was interviewed by Newsweek.

Cimini noted that Petal is very quiet, delicate, and sweet. She is accustomed to the mayhem that comes with hoarding.
Petal’s past is indicative of a more significant issue. According to the Animal Humane Society, hoarding affects up to 250,000 animals annually.
Justine Wilkinson, an environmental health officer at Northumbria University in England who studies the psychological causes of animal hoarding, was also interviewed by Newsweek to gain a deeper understanding of the problem.
According to Wilkinson, those who hoard animals frequently describe having unstable or uncaring upbringings. Many had difficult life situations as children and adults, as well as abusive or missing caregivers. They frequently looked to animals for solace and safety, using them as substitute attachment figures without worrying about being rejected.
Simon is not the only one in the viral video. Actually, the first horse to greet Petal with what Cimini called an aggressive sniff was Moose, a black horse who was ten years old. Simon came right after with his now-famous snack.
Cimini observed that despite his youth, he still has a lot of curiosity.
After being saved from slaughter, Moose and Simon have both thrived at Rancho Relaxo.
According to Cimini, Simon is a highly gregarious horse. You would never realize that he had been in danger of being killed until two years ago. He is now a contented and loving equine.
