In a statement released on Sunday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro once again blasted President Donald Trump’s large, elegant bill after it barely passed a procedural test in the Senate.
The package contains tax cuts, more cash for border security, and adjustments to federal programs like Medicaid and SNAP.
Shapiro, a Democrat, said in the statement on X, formerly Twitter, “This bill betrays the very people Trump vowed to help.”Consider it. Trump and his fellow Republicans pledged to safeguard the employment of the trades, pledged not to reduce Medicaid, and ran on a platform of lowering the deficit. They lied to win the election in the near term, and the consequences of this deceit will be felt for years to come in Pennsylvania and throughout the United States.
Shapiro stated that the potential harm to Pennsylvanians is his primary worry. In his statement, he said that the plan will deny Medicaid to 310,000 Pennsylvanians, deprive over 140,000 households of food assistance, and jeopardize 26,000 employment by raising taxes and cutting funds for affordable energy production.
Although it is illegal for unauthorized immigrants to get Medicaid in Pennsylvania, the bill’s supporters claim it will remove illegal aliens from the program.
“We are at the forefront of eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in the country,” Shapiro stated.
He said in the statement that the law might result in the loss of food assistance for almost two million children and their families nationally.
According to Shapiro, these individuals are employed and only require a little additional assistance to provide for their families. They and our farmers, who perform the honorable task of cultivating food to feed their neighbors, are treated cruelly by this.
Pennsylvania is home to a sizable energy community in addition to a sizable agriculture community. There are more jobs at danger because the Commonwealth is the country’s second-largest net energy exporter.
According to Shapiro, this will destroy the areas of our energy sector that are expanding the fastest. Higher electricity costs will more than make up for the significant efforts my administration has made to keep electricity costs under control, which is an insult to all Pennsylvanians.
The bill might hurt everyone, Shapiro stated in his remarks. He asked why Republicans are moving quickly to pass the law, claiming that they want to defraud everyone, including Trump supporters.
Even Trump’s erstwhile confidant Elon Musk has voiced strong opposition to the bill.
Pennsylvania senators were divided in a procedural step on Saturday night. The bill was supported by Republican Senator Dave McCormick and opposed by Democrat Senator John Fetterman.
Shapiro has expressed his disapproval of the law in a number of statements that he has posted on X.
