Former basketball superstar
Shaquille O’Neal
took aim at former NFL star quarterback
Robert Griffin III
after Griffin made a social media post about Chicago Sky star
Angel Reese
.
In a social media post, Griffin attempted to defend Reese, but amplified a racist edit of the star on the ‘NBA 2K26 cover’ to his 2.2 million followers, drawing backlash.
O’Neal railed against Griffin’s actions on an appearance on
‘Off the Record’
earlier this week. During that podcast, O’Neal threatens to ‘punch’ Griffin if he keeps ‘messing’ with Reese.
“RGIII, tweet another monkey post about my girl Angel Reese, and I’m gonna punch you in your (expletive) face. OK? It’s enough. Like, I don’t usually do stuff like this, but just stop it, bro,”
O’Neal said.
“You got your job, you got your podcast, leave my Angel Reese alone. I’m the one calling her and telling her not to respond. Leave those girls alone. You already spoke on. Let it go. He hates her, so (expletive) what? I hate you now for messing with her. Now what, say something about me.”
O’Neal personally knows Reese, whom he has become a mentor to since her time at LSU, O’Neal’s alma mater. Amplifying Griffin’s actions, he said in an earlier post that members of Reese’s inner circle told him the Sky star ‘hated’ Indiana Fever star
Caitlin Clark
.
In a July 10 post, Reese appeared to respond to those allegations by Griffin.
“Lying on this app when everybody know the first and last name of everybody in my circle for clout is nastyyyy work,” Reese wrote.
Clark and Reese’s rivalry trails back to their college days when they met in the NCAA Tournament while Reese was at LSU and Clark was at Iowa.
