The Associated Press, citing local police, said that a shooting occurred at the Grand Sierra Resort in Reno, Nevada, early Monday morning, leaving many people injured and a suspect in custody.
According to FoxReno, the Reno Police Department (RPD) said that at around 7:25 a.m. on July 28, officers responded to reports of an active shooter at the resort.
The suspect was taken to a hospital after being captured, according to authorities. His identity and condition are still unknown. The public is not under any continuous danger, police stressed.
Numerous victims with varying degrees of injury were recorded by officials. Authorities are still making sure everyone involved is accounted for, therefore the precise number of people injured has not been made public. According to reports, some of the injured drove themselves to hospitals.
Although none of the policemen were shot, several were involved in the confrontation and suffered minor injuries.
Most of the shooting happened outside the resort, along the north side of the parking lot and close to the valet area. The area has been cordoned by authorities as they conduct a thorough investigation.
The investigation, which involves officer response, is currently being led by the Sparks Police Department.
Devon Reese, a councilman for Reno City, posted a condolence message on social media, urging people to pray for those impacted by the tragedy.
